What are the first words that pop into your head when you hear Mexican Food? Has this small Mexican eatery come into your mind? Taco Local just expanded alongside introducing a new face for the store and all of you should consider going to this not so typical Tex-Mex eatery. Simply out of stories and fascination towards tacos and Mexican food, the founders of Taco Local succeeded in building something of an authentic Mexican joint.
They have one in Bali, whereas in Jakarta, they recently established something new that is not entirely authentic-Mexican-decorated yet does accentuate the modern take on it. It could well be said as Plan B’s semi showroom as most of the things are from Plan B. Intending to make a friendly, warm and homey, not-posh street joint atmosphere; they succeeded in doing just that. Even the toilets seem to transport anyone to somewhere in Mexico.
Now let us talk about grub. The menu includes tacos, nachos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, and tostados, while some of the dishes that are famous among the customers start with Lengua Tacos which is assembled of grilled tongue, Salsa Fresca, Guacamole and crispy pork rind. It then continues to the weekend special; Jamon y huevas and tostadas (fried and stacked corn tortillas with an array of choices of toppings and sides), and lastly, the new addition to the menu; Dirty Rice. Obviously it is not meant for the literal side, yet it includes pork, tortilla chips, rice, and cheese all together in one pleasurably aberrant dish. You can also be creative and add and mix various sides to your dishes. For those on the other side where the grass is definitely greener, Vegetarians, do not worry, not only meat devotees can enjoy filling up their stomachs here, Elote, which is a dish that consists of chipotle corn, frijoles, salsa Fresca, salsa verde and guacamole is certainly recommended.
Did we miss something? Sour cream? It turns out that authentic Mexican food does not use sour cream in their recipes. Who would have known that sour cream was an addition from the Americans?
Has your mouth watered yet? Don’t sweat it, Taco Local’s margaritas are here to save and replenish the day. On a hot day in Jakarta, what better way to spend it by sipping on a (relatively tall glass of) refreshing drink? The collection offered there includes Tijuana Ice Tea, Coriander Margarita (which is actually quite savory, you’re not familiar with it on the first sip, yet you will enjoy it anyway), The Mexican Apple Jack that basically tastes like cake and is made of apple juice, vodka, and cinnamon, and Sandia Fresca which is simply watermelon sorbet and tequila.
Finally, to end the perfect visit, it won’t be a crime to top it all off with Dessert, or should we say Postres. There are three main desserts served at Taco Local which include Helados, a spiced up chocolate ice cream that starts you off with an ordinary chocolaty flavor and finishes off with a spicy aftertaste for that extra kick – we absolutely love this! Alongside with Pina Asada, some grilled pineapple, rum and vanilla ice cream, and Toffee Cake which is sticky date and vanilla ice cream.
These guys wanted to build something from scratch, originally and extremely Mexican, enhancing the local spirit and community and doing it all by supporting the local goods and market (hence the addition of ‘local’ to the name). Let us support this ideology, have a big meal, sip on a refreshing margarita and enjoy the rest of the day. Might as well put a Taco Local visit in your plans, try the food and drinks, so that when you hear the words; Mexican food, Taco Local will surely be one of the first words that will pop into head.
and P.S. They now have a Buy 1 Get 1 promo for margaritas every Monday to Thursday from 5pm to 8pm.
