A new design hotel has opened in the heart of Jakarta, Kosenda Hotel, founded by Ruben Kosenda. The eight-story building with diamond features offers 60 individually tailored rooms, a stunning rooftop lounge, cafe, and restaurant that is headed by celebrated Sydney and Melbourne restaurateur Stewart Gan, as a fun escape for those needing to get away from Jakarta’s hectic life.
The hotel is inspired by international design trends, with every detail being carefully deliberated over. “For many years I dreamt of opening a design hotel in the heart of Jakarta,” says Ruben, “A hotel filled with character and individuality, with sensible spaces and innovative cuisine, I wanted to create an experience that was understated and relaxed with a modern edge.”
You will found original furniture from timeless designers such as Svend Skipper, Poul Henningsen, and an original Hans Wegner 1950’s chair called the ‘Ox’. An eight-story feature wall made entirely out of solid teak wood offcuts grabs attention in the center of the hotel, along with the humorous mural by local artist Sanchia T. Hamidjaja that depicts life in present day Jakarta, while art by Triyadi Guntur Wiratmo fills along the corridors telling the stories and history of the city’s past.
Guests will definitely love the spacious room and selected furnishings; wardrobe space fitted with luggage rack, a lengthy kitchenette bench that doubles as workspace, an iPod dock and digital alarm, handmade kimonos, laundry bags, and batik sandals, and of course not forgetting the 300-thread count cotton sheet and luxurious towels.
Don’t forget to visit Awan Lounge located at the top of the hotel, a breathtaking rooftop bar and garden, delivering city views and one of Jakarta’s leading cocktail lists. If you’re looking to dine you can visit the Waha Kitchen that serves Peranakan cuisine.
