Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains
/ 18 May 2016

Colors do stimulate our creative thinking and feeling as we all have natural reactions when seeing objects with certain colorations. Say, a blue sky gives us a chill mood while a bunch of sunflowers bring us a more cheerful ambience. It’s like a mantra that influence our activities and responses towards anything. And now we’re about to tell you about colors other power that will blow your mind- because, who knew a stack of colorful rocks could make people so happy?

In the desert south of Las Vegas, Nevada, an internationally renowned Swiss artist, Ugo Rondinone has assembled an epic land artwork consisting a series of bright, bold and colorful stacked rocks sculptures, named the Seven Magic Mountains.

This is arguably the most satisfying installation and will be on display for two years, beginning in May 11, 2016.

During five years, Seven Magic Mountains is made up of locally sourced limestone composited in vertical groups of three to six rocks, each painted a different fluorescent color to depict the balance between stability and collapse. These man-made wonders are described by the artist itself as a sense of continuity and solidarity between human and nature, artificial and natural, then and now.

Produced by the collaboration of the Art Production Fund, New York and the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, it is hoped to be an inspiration for people to explore the city’s nature more often.
